From Agile Coaching to AI Agile Coaching: My Journey and a New Story Unfolds

For over 25 years, I've dedicated my career to guiding organizations through Agile transformations, witnessing firsthand the power of these methodologies to unlock innovation and efficiency. From my early days implementing Scrum at Nationwide to scaling Agile across thousands at Walmart, the journey has been both challenging and immensely rewarding. But the landscape of technology is ever-evolving, and a new frontier has emerged: Artificial Intelligence.

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into various industries, including healthcare and retail, the need for a new breed of Agile coach is becoming clear. The traditional Agile frameworks, while still relevant, require adaptation and evolution to accommodate the unique demands of AI development. This realization sparked my own transformation – from Agile Coach to AI Agile Coach.

In my recent blog series, I delved into the core principles of AI Agile Coaching, exploring how Agile methodologies can be adapted for AI projects, the essential skills and practices for AI Agile Coaches, and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. But sometimes, a story can be the most powerful way to convey complex ideas and inspire action.

That's why I'm excited to share the second edition of my book, "An AI Agile Story." This AI-generated fiction novel explores the intersection of healthcare, AI, and Agile, offering a glimpse into a future where these forces converge to revolutionize patient care and organizational efficiency.

This updated edition is more than just a technological exploration; it's a deeply personal story. Drawing inspiration from my own experiences as an Agile coach, I've woven in real-world anecdotes and insights that bring the narrative to life. The characters grapple with challenges I've encountered firsthand, such as misaligned projects, resource mismanagement, and the cultural shift required for successful Agile AI implementation.

Through the eyes of Alex, an AI development lead, and Joe, a seasoned Agile coach, we journey through the triumphs and setbacks of building a human-centric AI system within a large healthcare retail organization. We witness their struggles to adapt Agile practices for AI development, their commitment to fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning, and their unwavering focus on the ethical implications of their work.

An Agile AI Story: When Machines Learn to Sprint: A Fable of Agility and AI: Kromann, L. Todd: 9798884028111: Amazon.com: Books is not just a fictional tale; it's a roadmap for the future of Agile coaching. For fellow Agile coaches, Scrum Masters, and Agile leaders facing the integration of AI into their organizations, this book offers valuable insights and practical guidance. It explores the evolving role of the Agile coach in the age of AI, the need for new skills and perspectives, and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

I invite you to join me on this journey. Explore the pages of "An AI Agile Story," reflect on your own experiences with Agile and AI, and let's continue the conversation about the future of Agile coaching in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. Together, we can build a future where technology and humanity work hand in hand to create a better world for all.
